Carnatic Vocal Arangetram

of their beloved daughter Aanya Gangenamoni disciple of Smt. Nithya Sayeeganesh

An arangetram — literally, ascending the stage — is the moment a student steps out from her guru's shadow and carries a full concert on her own voice. Eleven years of practice, offered in one sitting.

About

Aanya Gangenamoni

A ninth-grader from Coppell, Texas, who has spent most of her life inside three classical traditions — and still finds time for the volleyball court.

Aanya in a namaskaram pose

Aanya Gangenamoni has been learning Carnatic vocal music for eleven years under her guru, Smt. Nithya Sayeeganesh. Through years of dedicated practice she has grown into a confident vocalist who loves expressing the beauty and emotion of every composition she sings.

Her passion for Indian classical arts also led her to Kuchipudi, which she has studied for eight years under Smt. Swapna Gudemella, and to the Carnatic violin, which she has trained in for seven years under Shri Umamahesh Iyer, with advanced guidance from the renowned violin maestro Acharya Ratnakara Vittal Ramamurthy Ji and Shri Srihari Vittal. She has also played the Western flute in her middle school band, and is pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Classical Arts from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University.

At just fourteen, Aanya has earned three Guinness World Records in Indian classical arts and Hindu literature recitals, and has performed music and dance in support of many charitable causes. A keen athlete, she has represented Coppell Middle School in volleyball, basketball and wrestling, trained in Taekwondo for eight years, and enjoys traveling, cooking, crocheting and time with family and friends.

Today, as she presents her Carnatic Vocal Arangetram, Aanya offers this performance with heartfelt gratitude to her gurus, parents, family and well-wishers, whose guidance and blessings have shaped her journey. She hopes to continue learning, preserving and sharing the timeless beauty of Indian classical music while using her talents to inspire and serve others.

The teachers behind the voice

In this tradition nothing is self-taught. Every phrase Aanya sings on September 4th passes through a line of teachers who gave it to her — and the arangetram belongs as much to them as to her.
